目前的顏色搭配始於1251年，皇帝黨在被趕出佛羅倫薩後，繼續源用原來的市徽；

而成功控制佛羅倫薩的教宗黨為了與對手有所區別，就把市徽改為現在的模樣。

1809年，拿破崙下令廢除了古老的白底紅花市徽，又將之改為銀色背景，

綠色草地上一朵百合花，並在頂部加上紅色條帶和三隻金色蜜蜂（象徵拿破崙）。

在佛羅倫斯的街道上，甚至市場，處處可見鳶尾花的圖樣，鳶尾花象徵著光明與自由意識，
